The renowned castletown of Monemvasia is situated in the prefecture of Laconia. Administratively, it belongs to the Municipality of Monemvasia, based in Molai. It is 300 Km from Athens and 87 Km from Sparta. The access to the area is easy through the national road network. When reaching the new, modern town of Monemvasia (outside the castle), you are presented with the huge rock that is host to the famous castle. In about one kilometer- after you cross the big bridge and driving around the rock- you arrive at the gate, where there is parking space. Walking through the gate you sink into the magical atmosphere of the medieval castle and you find yourselves already at the main street with the stores and cafés, which is named after the great poet of Monemvasia, Yiannis Ritsos. At a very small distance from the gate, you will find the reception of Byzantino Boutique Hotel, whose facilities are a few meters further, at the main square of the lower Old Town.
