The history of this monument is parallel to that of Mystras. It is a Latin castle, founded after the conquest of Constantinople by the Crusaders in 1204. It is located in an area which has been inhabited since pre-historic times, on the foothills of Parnonas at an altitude of 400m. It was one of the most significant castles of Peloponnese and despite the extensive damage it has suffered over the centuries, it is still one of the most important sights of the area.
